When we got here at midnight, our guesthouse landlords welcomed us so well with a gorgeous cocktail and a drunken breakdown of what we gotta see here in Bangkok. His name is Mac, who moved here 13 years ago from the US, where he left owning a big landscape company. He just married his wife Noi, and they own a bar and some guesthouses. What an entertainer he was, sharing stories til 3 in the morning.
Today, we walked all the way south to the spots Mac suggested, including an outdoor strip of shops along the water and massages.

People weren't kidding when they said Thai massages hurt. They put us in some yoga positions, digging elbows/ knees into us and even stepped on my back. They weren't as rough on Jen though, presumably cause I'm a dude, but she's actually able to withstand pain way more than me! For a full hour, it cost 100 baht. That's 25 hkd or 3.50$ Canadian, that's craziness! We found out that Starbucks coffee here cost more than dinner and an hour long massage!
We then got shoo'd away from a temple because we were wearing shorts and a skirt (guess who wore what haha). Seems they are much more strict here than in the Hong Kong temples.
We have had 2 meals here, and both times we enjoyed some delicious Pad Thai. There's no comparison to what we have in Canada, the noodles so fresh and cooked just right from the actual origin of the cuisine. If you say that last sentence a certain way, it sounds humourously condescending. While iiiii travelled the world, the cuisine(say extra French) was cooked like sooooo (grabbing my monocle) hmmhmhmhmm...
This neighbourhood is so interesting, right beside a 6-story giant mall, there was a market that had outdoor eateries, food carts, tshirts, so much randomness. It's similar to the lady's market in HK.
Laying here in Thailand with Jen, I've realized that our adventure continues to exhilarate and fulfill me in ways that I could have never imagined. Life is everything I always wanted it to be and more because I'm willing to try these new things! For example letting middle-aged women hurt me while I quietly restrain my squeals, and joining an elephant family by sticking my trunk in their junk. Never done either before!
We appreciate all the helpful tips that were shared with us. "Its all a scam, everything!" was the most common one. :) Looking forward to what's coming up next on this trip, and we will keep u updated!
Since there's shrines of him everywhere, he's also made it into our blog to close it out, here's The King!
